Art Class by Michael Nock: Cutting Edge

  • Nockie's Palette 756 Lake Hayes-Arrow Junction Highway RD 1, Frankton, Queenstown Queenstown, Otago New Zealand (map)

Join artist Michael Nock at Nockie's Palette Cellar Door for a dynamic mixed-media workshop exploring the modern art of collage. Drawing inspiration from the rhythmic compositions and flattened perspectives of renowned Australian artist John Peart, this session will guide you in creating your own compelling multi-panel artwork.

You will begin by crafting a unique 'collage palette' of materials, then learn to cut, layer, and compose across multiple surfaces. The focus is on experimenting with structure, rhythm, and dynamic construction to build a visually captivating piece. All skill levels are welcome to discover the expressive potential of contemporary collage in this inspiring and hands-on class.

About John Peart:
John Peart (1945–2013) was a significant Australian abstract painter whose prolific, fifty-year career was defined by relentless experimentation and profound intelligence. A winner of the Wynne and Sulman Prizes, his work evolved from hard-edge abstraction to lyrical, landscape-evoking forms. Peart was a key figure in the influential 1968 exhibition 'The Field' and lived within the Wedderburn artist community. His expansive, resonant paintings are held in major national collections, cementing his standing as a leading figure in twentieth-century Australian art.
