An Afternoon of Art & Alchemy: Walking with Giants at Giverny

Nockie’s Palette Wines invites you to an extraordinary Art Meets Wine event on Saturday, 12 September 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM.

Join us for an intimate, guided walking tour through the breathtaking Giverny Garden (78 Lower Shotover Road, Queenstown), where art, nature, and conversation converge. This is a rare opportunity to experience one of the most significant contemporary sculpture installations in New Zealand: the five monumental Walking Men by renowned British sculptor Laurence Edwards.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the sculpture garden, these 8-foot-tall bronze figures appear to stride through the paddock, their forms woven with branches, leaves, and clods of earth. They are figures of myth and modernity—ancient yet futuristic, enduring yet deeply reflective of the human condition.

Your Guides for the Afternoon:

This exclusive event is hosted by Michael Nock (Nockie) , founder of Nockie’s Palette and an artist and collector who championed bringing these powerful works to the Southern Hemisphere. Michael will be joined by his dear friend and artistic collaborator, acclaimed New Zealand/Australian painter Euan Macleod (Archibald Prize winner, 1999), and the sculptor himself, Laurence Edwards, who will offer unique insight into the creation and visceral energy of his iconic Walking Men.

Over the course of two hours, Michael, Euan, and Laurence will walk with you through the garden, sharing personal stories, artistic philosophies, and their perspectives on these awe-inspiring figures that have graced the grounds of Blenheim Palace (UK) and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

The Experience:

  • An Intimate Artist Talk: Hear directly from the artists as they discuss the Walking Men in their temporary home, exploring themes of humanity, place, and timelessness.

  • A Sensory Journey: Savor a selection of Nockie's Palette’s exquisite Rosé and delicious snacks as you wander through the serene landscape, allowing the art and environment to spark conversation.

  • A Unique Setting: Experience world-class sculpture in the intimate and picturesque setting of Giverny Garden—a moment where art meets the land.
